Jericho's Milleridge Inn, the kind of place generations of Long Islanders have used for everything from Sunday brunch to wedding receptions, is closed for business after a fire broke out Thursday night. The Jericho Fire Department got the call around 9:30pm and found flames at the historic property on North Broadway, a landmark that's anchored that stretch of road for decades.

Nine departments, Westbury, Syosset, Bethpage, Hicksville, Carle Place, Glenwood, Roslyn, Plainview, and Farmingdale, sent crews to help, and firefighters had the blaze under control within about an hour. Nobody was hurt. The Inn's neighboring Cottage building was untouched, but the main house took real damage, and staff are waiting on word from investigators before they can even walk through and assess what's left.

Frank Esposito, who runs sister property Baldwin's Coral House under the same parent company, said everyone connected to the Inn is on standby and hoping for a quick reopening. The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office and the county's Arson/Bomb Squad are looking into what sparked it. For a spot that's been a fixture of family gatherings for so long, the whole thing is a gut punch to anyone who's ever celebrated something big there.

Big news out of East Patchogue: NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk is moving forward with a $650 million, 270,000-square-foot expansion, and the design just went public this week. Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico shared the architectural renderings in a Facebook post, calling it a major commitment to expanding and improving healthcare services for the community.

The hospital has worn a few names over the years, first Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, then Long Island Community Hospital, and now NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk, but its role in the community hasn't changed. It's one of four hospitals in the Town of Brookhaven and serves the entire South Shore, stretching from the Hamptons all the way to Islip. An expansion of this size would mean more space, more services, and more access for the families who count on it.

The project still needs sign off from Brookhaven Town before anything breaks ground, and that process continues with a public hearing at Town Hall in Farmingville on Aug. 27 at 3pm. Long Island's first taste of 7 Brew might be coming to Selden. Brookhaven Town Councilman Neil Manzella confirmed the rumors this month, announcing that the fast growing, Arkansas born drive-thru coffee chain is eyeing a spot at Independence Plaza along Middle Country Road, tucked behind Five Guys and Guitar Center.

7 Brew has ballooned to more than 700 locations in 38 states since 2017 with a menu built around endless drink combinations, coffee, energy drinks, teas, lemonades, and no indoor seating at all, just a fast window and a friendly wave. If this location gets the green light, it would be the chain's very first on Long Island, and Manzella said he's already met with company reps, shopping center owner Kimco Realty, and the Selden Civic Association about it.

The project still needs a change of zone from the Town of Brookhaven before anything breaks ground, and Manzella says he's pushed for tree replacement guarantees and pointed to the long vacant Rite Aid building in the same plaza, which he's told will soon become a Wells Fargo. Residents who want to weigh in can head to the Selden Civic Association meeting on Sept. 24 at the Selden Fire House.
